For the Meatballs:

- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

- 1 egg

- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for browning)
For the Sauce:
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Meatballs:
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Brown the Meatballs:
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides (they do not need to be fully cooked as they will finish cooking in the crockpot).
- Transfer the browned meatballs to the crockpot.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth and flour until smooth.
- Pour the mixture over the meatballs in the crockpot.
- Cook:
- Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until the meatballs are fully cooked and tender.
- Finish the Sauce:
- About 15 minutes before serving, stir in sour cream and Dijon mustard (if using). Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
- Serve:
- Serve the meatballs over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice. Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley or a sprinkle of nutmeg for added flavor.
