Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for browning)

For the Sauce:

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs:
    • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
    • Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  2. Brown the Meatballs:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides (they do not need to be fully cooked as they will finish cooking in the crockpot).
    • Transfer the browned meatballs to the crockpot.
  3. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth and flour until smooth.
    • Pour the mixture over the meatballs in the crockpot.
  4. Cook:
    • Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until the meatballs are fully cooked and tender.
  5. Finish the Sauce:
    • About 15 minutes before serving, stir in sour cream and Dijon mustard (if using). Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve the meatballs over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice. Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley or a sprinkle of nutmeg for added flavor.
